Self-catering meal ideas for the whole family

After organising dates and getting everyone on board for a holiday over the same time period, you are exhausted. Now you also have to get bags and cars packed and have all the food packed and prepped. Deciding what to cook to make everyone happy shouldn’t be an extra burden to bear. That’s why we’ve got you sorted with simple holiday meals to satisfy everybody.

Simple self-catering meals coming right up

1. Meals you can make in bulk

You want to be spending as much time as possible with your family, relaxing and making memories, not slaving away in the kitchen. Think about meals you can make in larger quantities so you can have them again the next day. Good options are things like macaroni cheese, spaghetti bolognaize or chicken stroganoff. Make it fresh and have it for dinner, and then heat it up again the next day for lunch. Not sure what else to have prepped for your self-catering holiday? 2. Make basics you can add to

To cater to everyone’s tastes, just make simple basics and let people add whatever they’d like to them. Chicken strips, roast vegetables, classic meatballs or fish fingers go a long way and can be paired with almost anything to make a great meal. Have chicken pieces ready and pair them with vegetables for dinner and fresh, crispy rolls for lunch. Something like meatballs can be made with pasta for dinner and mash for lunch.

3. Choose the ‘build your own’ option

We can’t put into words how much we love this! It works so well for groups of people where everyone has their own preferences. Go for basic burger patties and rolls and then have fresh toppings and sauces on hand for the kids and adults to build to their liking. No complaining here!

4. Take meals with you

If you’ve got a few hours before you leave for your trip, even the night before, then make a few meals and freeze them. This works great if you’re just driving up or down the coast, to somewhere like Ramsgate, and the meals will stay frozen in a cooler box. Make a chicken and mushroom pie or a big pot of fresh soup and freeze in containers, ready to be defrosted or popped into the oven when hunger strikes.

It really couldn’t be simpler to keep self-catering food worries to a minimum so you can actually rest and reset while you’re away. Still not sure if self-catering is for you? Take a read through our post: ‘Why self-catering is the way to go in 2018’ and it just might change your mind!
